THE INSURANCE BROKER

                       THE INSURANCE BROKER

I was at a wedding ceremony, dressed beautifully in a native attire comprising of an Ankara material gown and a head gear popularly called “gele” with a pump on my feet to match. I really don’t know why but these days my fashion sense has gone from nerdy to chic...although my sister calls it “Barbie Dolly”, I completely consider it chic.
The event was so interesting, not only was it a union of two people in love but also a reunion gathering for some of us that haven’t seen each other in while. I was reunited with friends I had studied many years back with and they were all looking so sweet, I almost wanted to take them home….almost!

On the 1st of October 2013, my home country “Nigeria” celebrated its 53 years of independence. Oh what joy we had, irrespective of everything we go through as a nation, we don’t overlook celebrating every time we have the opportunity to.
It is quite unfortunate that globally Nigeria is tagged with all sorts of negativity. It is so bad, that our struggles every day is mostly as a result of our inability to convince even ourselves that they are wrong about us. Nigerians in my own perspective have come to accept the proven fact that we have so much negativity, it’s a miracle how we survive daily and why physical forces “like the government “are incapable of helping...who do we turn to?

Experiencing every day in Nigeria without being disgraced, insulted, robbed, molested,  kidnapped, bombed or killed is not due to fact that we have great infrastructural facilities, or because the Police is highly effective, or the Government is critically concerned of each and everyone’s well-being. Still, businesses runs as usual with high profits, ceremonies like the wedding I attended still go on successfully as planned, life continues…what is responsible?

Unemployment is at its highest, the educational system is currently at its lowest and to crown it all, corruption is the order of the day. We are constantly faced with bills of services not fully or properly rendered or extortion that are totally unjustified. Yet the rich; like my upcoming self…lol… are still getting richer legitimately... why is this so?

Our health care system is nothing to write home about, it is in a devastating state, with lack of sufficient equipment or skilled professionals, overcrowding is a norm in public hospitals run by the government while overcharged fees is the status quo of privately owned hospitals. Drugs are inevitably abused and our enforcement agencies are not as competent as they ought to be, our roads are becoming death traps and our airplanes are becoming so dangerous it will be a great sequel for the movie “Final Destination”. Still people are living to a very good old age…How is this happening?

As my friends and I were becoming acquainted with each other, one of them suddenly cut in sharply and looked straight at me and asked “Are you a minister?”. I was shocked at the question as I have never considered myself one. Besides, it was almost embarrassing because earlier on, I had been dancing to all kinds of circular music that most ministers would consider highly inappropriate. She stated immediately that she reads my posts on facebook- I started writing on facebook before I was advised to start my own blog- and she was always so inspired by it, she wanted to know if I was a minister in a church somewhere.

*Thinking deeply*
I have attended ministry and evangelism schools in the church where I service my spirituality-I like to call it that instead of putting something simple like ”where I worship”. I have been a pastor of one children’s fellowship before and enjoyed every moment of it while it lasted. But I have never considered myself a minister.

I think I like to refer to myself as an evangelist- a person who seeks to convert others to the Christ, especially by public writing or better still,i like to see myself as an Insurance Broker. Therefore, today the 25th October, 2013 to commemorate Nigeria’s 53rd independence. I, #Potter’sImage writes about:

TOUCHED BY A BROTHEL

I WAS TOUCHED IN A BROTHEL

There is something so special about a scarlet woman. Once you are caught up with her, she has a way of sinking you into herself. Her provocative nature is so appealing, it is almost impossible to resist and that is most likely the least of her qualities. You would come to admire her courage, as she is fearless, roaming the dangerous streets at night looking for those interested in her charm and seductiveness and she captivates them by her dressing which is usually too much of too little.

My first encounter with her was in a brothel, the building was at the end of a crescent which was a perfect hide out for the kind of activities that went on there at night. The inside was dark, irrespective of the fact that I went there during the day. It wasn’t scary dark, but appealing dark. The kind of darkness that draws you to itself and wakes up something nasty inside of you as you enter its terrain.
The walls were decorated with paintings of naked women waiting tables. It gave new comers an idea of what they were to expect and just how they were going to be treated. At the entrance, you are greeted by a bar and the bar man is ever ready to mix whatever concoction you need to get you high up and ready for whatever pleasure waited for you afterwards. As you take your sit on one of the tables, you can see that the bar leads to a passage lined with rooms and your imagination will immediately run wild because you know she is waiting for you there, ready and willing…

We were a group of about thirty people, male and female, all dressed in a red shirt that read “Baba God noni”. We had food, drinks and a band with us that played non-stop music that blended with the environment we were in.

I was selected as one of those to enter the place as men were only allowed in at night. The whole idea was to evangelize to as many as we can find outside of their rooms, persuading them to renew their minds, to receive light and accept Christ. It sounded very easy, I had it all planned out, I would enter and approach anyone I see, hand out a flyer, tell them Jesus loves you, if they are interested, I tell them the rest of how they should renew their minds, receive light and accept Christ. If not, I would just step out of their way and go to the next person I find and hand out a flyer…Piece of cake.

I was a learner, truly I was because as I entered the place, there was a rush that went over me like never before. It was that of complete soberness, I was caught by what I saw so deeply, I didn’t realize how time had gone by. I suddenly wanted sit down and absorb all that was around me. I didn’t feel like sharing my speech anymore with anyone else, it really seemed completely useless… People lived like this every day, this was their reality, this was what they knew, and some have been doing this for more than twenty years. Even the new comers where so young, they probably didn’t have a choice but to be there. I just couldn’t do it, my words didn’t really come from the heart, they were rehearsed, planned out and not a single emotion was put into it. I empathize with them and thought to myself for one second, if this was my reality and a girl in a tee shirt walked up to me looking like she has it all figured out and tells me to change my own mind, and that her Jesus loves me, would I believe her or call her bluff…. I probably wouldn’t believe her myself.

So I just sat there, with the flyers in my hand and I couldn’t help but feel sad. The women I saw were beautiful, they were human beings who abuse their bodies daily in exchange for money. They could get a job, they probably would do better if they just started their own legitimate business selling products or services but this was deeper than physical change of minds. It was a spiritual battle, even when you enter the place, you can sense entities around you, and it’s like you are no longer yourself but have been possessed by something you can’t explain.

I became repentant, I asked God to help me do something. Reach someone if I can, from the heart this time. What can I do to help, how can be an instrument used to touch people that are hurting, people in severe darkness, drawn in so deep, they need divine intervention to pull them out of it. What is my own role? An onlooker? A critic? A Solution?

I stood up and approached a young girl, I sat with her for a while talking about how beautiful her hair was and by the time I was through with the compliments, she was giving me all her attention so I started to tell her of a friend I had who I wanted her to know about.

That was the beginning of my evangelism, my true story inspired by a scarlet woman in a brothel.

I was touched by the state they were in, that I couldn’t help but be motivated. At that moment it occurred to me that I could start with what I had. I may not have enough money, may not have a place to accommodate anyone, I may not have this or that. But I do have talents; a voice and my writing. lol.. It may be shabby, not good enough, unprofessional, and unrealistic and it might not change the whole world but it might reach just ONE person, who will hear the word, believe it, accept it and also produce someone else who will do the same... Making it all worth the try.

I may not be a preacher, I may not be that talented in writing, I may not even be that devoted in religion, but I know that ever since I gave my life to Christ, I have been passionate about sharing this experience. My life became better, my hope was restored and I was given a second chance at life. I was renewed, all my atrocities were forgiven. lol …and they were a lot…  Most importantly, I had an opportunity to start all over and I was equipped with grace to continue to stay that way.

Salvation, isn’t the only step of a new beginning but it is the first step to getting there. The beauty about it is that it happens when you decide not take that journey alone, but to tell someone else whom you know needs salvation as much as you do. You may not have the world, but am certainly positive that you have talents which can be used effectively in this ministry.

STEAL, KILL, DESTROY VS. Εὐαγγέλιον Euangélion

STEAL, KILL, DESTROY
VS.
Εὐαγγέλιον Euangélion

Scary isn’t it? ”Steal, Kill, destroy” sounds like a horror movie with no survivals. The villain in this case is a very tall and muscular male with horns on his head, he wears a red cape on a black suit with a long tail protruding from his behind. His teeth are razor sharp just like a vampire, claws more than five inches long, curled and sharp, ready to pierce into the very soul of its victims.#

The villain never sleeps, always roaming about the Earth looking, waiting, and planning every single move on how to deceitfully get his victims. He does this non-stop, day and night, twenty-four hours, seven days a week, no vacations or strike actions. Be warned, he doesn't cause havoc alone, he has his agents he sends about to do the menial damage before he does the finishing touches. He also has to do it fast because there are oppositions, we could call them the “Fantastic Three” and their army big enough to destroy him.

He cajoles his victims by lying to them consistently about who they are and what they are meant to be, accusing them constantly of all their mistakes and wrong doings. He is mean and hateful, he doesn't stop until his victims are either re-born or dead.
Gnashing of teeth and screams are his favourite musical notes, waywardness, poverty and disaster and many more which are the effects of Sin, are his mantra while death is his major aim.
The  scary part is that he doesn't just kill only the body but he also takes the soul of his victims after they are dead, claiming them for eternity.

Some people know he exists, they even willingly sell their souls to him. Damming the consequences, as they feel they are better off selling it to him on a platter of gold than fighting him constantly for it when eventually they know they wont be able to match up to him and they will end up losing it. Some others are just ignorant to his existence, they are the ones that are very easy prey to him and his agents.
He is isn't the bogey man or Lord Voldemort, neither is he khan or the evil queen all cooked up from my imagination. He is very much real…
A fallen angel who was once so beautiful, respected and dignified, he was filled with too much pride and he wanted all the glory to himself so he traded all the good for bad. He became a serpent, ugly, disrespectful, undignified and defeated…

Εὐαγγέλιον euangélion- Good News
As with every story where there are villains, there are also superheroes. In this case, I will like to call them the “Fantastic Three in One” consisting of the: Almighty Father-“God”, The Son- “Jesus Christ” and The Comforter -“Holy Spirit”. They are my favourites, fighting for lost souls, breaking every yoke, lifting heavy burdens, they are beautifully dressed in white and a gold sash. They heal, restore, protect, provide, bless and comfort all those who have been victims. They also give light and life to all those who have been dead to sin and blinded by darkness.
They are the ones whose side you should be on, they won the battle two thousand years ago, yes ooo, 2000 years…and two thousand years after, they are still in the business of winning. Praise God!

I can go on and on and on and on and never stop talking about my heroes, but I would be selfish if I don't inform those who don't know just how to call on them, commune with them and eventually become like them.
Constant communion with them, fellowship and relationship will make you end up becoming as awesome as they are. Isn't that cool?
You would then join their fleet of army, becoming unstoppable, casting every demon, breaking every yoke, stepping on every serpent and scorpion. Whew!

All you have to do is accept them as your Lord and personal Saviour, confess it with your mouth and meditate on it in your heart…easy huh?

Once you have done that, you will have to get the weapon they left for you that has every answer to every question you might have about them “The Bible”. It is a book that contains all you need to know about the victory that happened 2000years ago and the coming victory that will soon occur. Yes ooo, we are not done with the villain, his final down fall is on its way and you won't want to miss it or be in the wrong army now would you?
